Family Tree Gift Package: One Grandparent’s Ancestry back to 1830-37

This package includes all direct ancestors of one grandparent as far back as anyone living at the time of the 1841 Census. This includes great grandparents, great great grandparents, 3x great grandparents, etc, plus all children born to each generation, and any additional spouses. The earliest of these ancestors could have been born in the mid to late eighteenth century. In-depth research of children who are not your grandparent’s direct ancestors will not be included, but baptisms, entries on censuses and any other information while they remain at the family home will be included. This differs from the ‘single surname’ option in that your grandparent has two parents, four grandparents, eight great great grandparents, and so on. It will therefore include more ancestral lines and many more individual people. You can see the difference between these two options by comparing the example chart below (following the paternal grandmother’s line) with that for the One Surname Gift Package option.

If I were doing this for my own paternal grandmother’s ancestry back to those living in 1837/1841, it would include my grandmother and four siblings, my great grandparents plus a second marriage for my great grandfather following the death of my great grandmother, resulting in a living arrangement that included blending the family with the second wife’s niece and nephew. Then there are two sets of GG grandparents, and a total of twelve children, and four sets of GGG grandparents, with a total of thirty-four children. Eight GGGG grandparents, born between 1778 and 1794, also survived until the 1850s/1860s and would also be included. Between them they had thirty-five children, bringing the total of individual people in this part of my own tree to 111 from Leeds, Norwich, London, York, Staffordshire and North Yorkshire. Yours may be larger or smaller, and you could choose to limit the number of generations.

You’ll get from me a full report of all research carried out, including:

  • Around 70 to 80 A4 pages including text, images of documents and family tree charts
  • Names of your direct ancestors along the chosen grandparent’s line back to around 1800-1837 (or earlier if appropriate), dates of their significant life events, where they lived at various stages of their lives, their occupation
  • Names and significant dates of any additional spouses
  • Names and birth years of all children born to all marriages
  • Copies and transcriptions (where necessary) of all records identified and drawn upon in the research. This will include digital images of the records where these are available online. The research will focus primarily on: Civil Birth, Marriage and Death entries on online registers; Religious Baptism, Marriage and Burial register entries; Census returns
  • The cost of this package will include a maximum of seven digital downloads of Civil Birth and/or Death entries on the General Register Office (GRO) Birth and Death registers. The full GRO reference information for all Civil Birth, Marriage and Death records identified in the research will be included, so that you can choose to purchase any of these direct from the GRO if desired, after the research.
  • Other documents that may be included are Municipal Cemetary registers; Military Attestation, Service Record or Pension documentation; Newspaper reports; Criminal records; Electoral, Poll Book or Directory entries; entries on the England & Wales Index of Wills and Administrations. Copies of actual post-1858 Probate documents and Wills will not be included, although upon receipt of my report you may wish to purchase any of these direct through the appropriate website
  • A family tree chart including all direct ancestors identified during the research
  • Smaller family trees showing all family members for different family units
  • I will also highlight if there seems to be an interesting ‘story’ attached to one of the characters not covered in the main report, that you might enjoy exploring afterwards
  • Any further areas for potential research that you might like to explore will also be included.
  • The report will be delivered to you by email so that you can print it off on good quality paper and keep in an attractive folder
  • If required, arrangements can be made for the report to be printed and bound, at extra cost

Before we start
We need to be sure I home in on the right family, so I will ask you for certain essential information before we start. This is the kind of information I’ll need:

  • Yours (or the recipients’) parents’ names, with dates and places of birth, and the same for grandparents if you have it
  • Copies (photos/scans) of any relevant birth, marriage and death certificates you already have
  • Any other information you have about family members – like the name of a great uncle or your grandmother’s cousin – along with known or likely years of birth, death, etc. This can help to home in on the right family, particularly if the surname is not uncommon
  • Please note that this is not for you if you are researching your family and have hit a brick wall, or if you would like me to check research you’ve already done. If that sounds like what you need, please visit my Custom Research page.
  • The price is based on 30 to 40 hours of research and report writing. The upper end of this may be needed if you have more generations within this timeframe, or if untangling the ancestral trail becomes unusually complex
  • There is an allowance within this amount for up to seven digital downloads of civil Birth or Death Register entries
  • In the event that parish Marriage records are not available online for the location of your ancestors; and where obtaining the record is essential for the progress of the research, this will be explained to you and will be charged at cost, currently £12.50
  • If required, additional digital downloads of Civil Birth and Death Register entries, over the seven included in this package, will be charged at cost, currently £3
  • Unavailability of records resulting in inability to trace any of the lines would reduce the cost. This would also be the case in the event of a birth out of wedlock meaning the father and his ongoing line cannot be traced.

Variations on this package

  • You can choose to limit the number of generations to keep the cost within your budget
  • You could choose to extend the research. This might be something you would want to do after receiving the report – perhaps to follow up on a particular ancestor or a story, or to take lines back further
  • If you would like further research on a different grandparent’s line, there will be a reduction of £50 for the first additional grandparent, £75 on the second, and £100 for the fourth.

Testimonials from happy clients

Janice worked with my sister and me to help us trace a line of our family tree. The amount of information Janice was able to provide was overwhelming and the details staggering. The layout, manner and thought that went into the transcripts we received were fantastic. I would gladly recommend Janice to anyone trying to trace their ancestors/ancestry. Many thanks.
